NORTH THAILAND – NORTHERN LAOS
10 Days / 9 Nights
Welcome to one of the last truly authentic motorcycle adventures in Southeast Asia.
This expedition has been carefully designed for riders who seek more than a typical motorcycle tour. It is a journey into remote mountains, hidden valleys, jungle trails, traditional villages, and some of the most spectacular landscapes found anywhere in Thailand and Laos.
Over ten unforgettable days, riders will travel far beyond the tourist routes and discover a side of Southeast Asia that few travellers ever experience.
From the mountains of Northern Thailand to the remote highlands of Laos, every day offers new challenges, breathtaking scenery, and genuine cultural encounters.
This is more than a ride.
It is an adventure.
Day 1 — Chiang Mai → Chiang Rai
The adventure begins in the mountains of Northern Thailand.
Leaving Chiang Mai behind, riders quickly enter a network of scenic backroads, forest tracks, and mountain trails. Approximately 60% of today’s route follows natural jungle trails and double-track roads, offering an authentic introduction to adventure riding in Northern Thailand.
The route passes through remote villages, agricultural valleys, mountain forests, and beautiful countryside landscapes rarely seen by ordinary travellers. Throughout the day, riders enjoy panoramic viewpoints and a variety of terrain while gradually making their way north toward Chiang Rai.
This first day sets the tone for the expedition ahead—adventure, exploration, and unforgettable scenery.
Hotel:
Diamond Park Inn Chiang Rai
Overnight in Chiang Rai.
Day 2 — Chiang Rai → Chiang Khong
Today’s route continues through the rugged and beautiful landscapes of Northern Thailand.
Once again, approximately 60% of the day consists of dirt roads, jungle tracks, and remote mountain routes far removed from the main highways.
Riders travel through traditional villages and forested mountain regions while enjoying spectacular views across the northern countryside.
As the expedition approaches the Mekong River, the scenery gradually changes, revealing the unique atmosphere of Thailand’s northern border region.
By late afternoon, riders arrive in Chiang Khong, the final Thai town before crossing into Laos.
Hotel:
Namkhong Riverside Hotel
Overnight in Chiang Khong.
Day 3 — Chiang Khong → Pak Beng (Laos)
Today marks the beginning of the Laos adventure.
After completing border formalities and vehicle import procedures, riders cross into Laos where a completely different world begins to unfold. Our team will assist with all necessary arrangements, while our local Lao partners welcome the group upon arrival.
Almost immediately, the difference becomes apparent. Traffic becomes lighter, villages become more remote, and life moves at a slower pace. The route to Pak Beng winds through mountains, valleys, forests, and traditional Lao communities.
The roads are quiet, the scenery is spectacular, and every kilometre offers a glimpse into an authentic side of Southeast Asia that remains largely unchanged.
Arriving in Pak Beng, riders can relax beside the Mekong River and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this charming riverside town.

Day 4 — Pak Beng → Luang Prabang
Departing Pak Beng in the morning, the expedition continues deeper into Northern Laos.
After a brief stop in Hongsa for fuel, refreshments, and a coffee break, the route leaves the main road and enters a network of dirt tracks and forest trails leading through remote mountain landscapes and hidden villages.
Depending on weather conditions and group preference, riders may choose between approximately 40 km or 80 km of off-road riding through jungle terrain, river crossings, remote communities, and spectacular mountain scenery.
These are the roads that define adventure riding in Laos—isolated, challenging, and immensely rewarding.
After lunch at a traditional local restaurant, the route rejoins the mountain highway and continues toward Luang Prabang, one of Southeast Asia’s most beautiful and culturally significant cities.
Hotel:

Day 5 — Luang Prabang → Phonsavan
Today is one of the most adventurous and rewarding riding days of the expedition.
Shortly after leaving Luang Prabang, the route turns away from the main roads and heads deep into the mountains of Northern Laos.
Approximately 85–90% of today’s journey consists of off-road terrain, including dirt roads, rocky tracks, gravel sections, and remote mountain trails. Riders travel through isolated villages, forest landscapes, river valleys, and some of the most untouched regions of Laos.
As the route approaches Xieng Khouang Province, the mountains gradually open into vast grasslands and rolling hills. The scenery is dramatic, peaceful, and often compared to the great alpine landscapes of Europe.
Before arriving in Phonsavan, riders enter the famous Plain of Jars region, one of Laos’ most fascinating historical and cultural landscapes.
This is a day filled with exploration, adventure, and unforgettable scenery.
Hotel:
Favanhmai Hotel
Overnight in Phonsavan.
Day 6 — Phonsavan → Vang Vieng
For many riders, this becomes the highlight of the entire expedition.
Leaving Phonsavan behind, the route heads south into the remote mountains of central Laos.
Depending on weather conditions and trail accessibility, the expedition may follow one of two adventure routes. Both offer spectacular riding through rugged mountain terrain, remote villages, hidden valleys, and breathtaking highland scenery before converging in the Xaysomboun region.
One route explores the historic Long Cheng area, while the alternative route travels through the dramatic highlands surrounding Phou Bia, the highest mountain in Laos at approximately 2,819 metres above sea level.
Rocky climbs, forest trails, loose gravel, mountain tracks, and remote wilderness create a challenging but immensely rewarding day for adventure riders.
After hours of exploration through the highlands, the route descends toward the magnificent Nam Ngum Reservoir, where one of the expedition’s most memorable experiences begins.
Motorcycles, riders, and support vehicles are loaded onto a local transport boat for a scenic crossing of the reservoir. Surrounded by mountains, quiet bays, and untouched wilderness, riders have time to relax and absorb the incredible scenery while crossing one of Laos’ most beautiful bodies of water.
The boat crossing takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Upon reaching the opposite shore, the adventure continues along a combination of dirt and paved roads before arriving in Vang Vieng.
For many participants, this becomes one of the defining memories of the entire expedition.

Day 7 — Vang Vieng (Free Day)
After several demanding riding days, today is dedicated to relaxation and personal exploration.
Guests may choose from a variety of optional activities including hot air balloon flights, kayaking, Blue Lagoon visits, cave exploration, mountain viewpoints, ATV adventures, buggy tours, hiking, and zipline experiences.
Others may simply enjoy the riverside atmosphere, local cafés, and spectacular limestone mountain scenery that has made Vang Vieng famous throughout Southeast Asia.

Day 8 — Vang Vieng → Muang Feuang
The adventure continues.
Leaving Vang Vieng behind, riders enter a network of remote jungle trails and mountain tracks inaccessible to conventional vehicles.
Approximately 80–90% of today’s route consists of dirt roads, rocky climbs, forest trails, river crossings, and remote mountain terrain. The route passes through hidden valleys, traditional villages, and beautiful natural landscapes that remain largely untouched by tourism.
While riders follow the adventure route, the support vehicle travels via an alternative road before rejoining the group in Muang Feuang.
Although shorter in distance than previous days, today’s route delivers outstanding riding and some of the most rewarding off-road terrain of the expedition.

Day 9 — Muang Feuang → Vientiane
Today’s journey gradually transitions from remote wilderness back toward the capital city of Laos.

As this is a transfer day, riders may travel in comfortable clothing while maintaining appropriate attire for international border procedures.
Upon arrival in Nong Khai, the motorcycle portion of the expedition officially concludes.
A private transfer vehicle will be waiting to transport guests to Udon Thani International Airport for onward flights to Bangkok and international destinations around the world.
